Butter Knife made from Hand Carved Wood

Butter Knife made from Hand Carved Wood
Love this

Description

A knife with many uses including buttering your toast, spreading jam or honey on your croissant, cutting soft cheeses and icing your cakes. Excellent for use in non stick pans as a stirrer. Fits perfectly and comfortably in the palm of your hand and is silky smooth. Has a very tight grain with with a pretty soft shimmer. The wood I chose for this comes from a garden Northaw in Hertfordshire and was very slow grown hence the tight grain formation. This wood is a traditional food use timber and the high natural silica content means it has great strength and will not absorb strong flavours hence it's use since ancient times in the dairy.
Measures measures 16.5 cm (6.5in) long x 2.5cm (1in) at it's widest.

Inspiration

This simple design is a Swedish classic - easy to use and was pure joy to make. The wood was very fresh with lots of sap and I sat in the late afternoon sunshine whittling wonderful shavings which became this excellent little culinary knife.
