A large cosmetic/ toiletries/ make-up/ accessories bag made from vintage retro and modern brocade fabrics.

This 'oh so retro' viscose fabric from the late 60s/ early 70s forms the exterior of this capacious bag, and features large flower-power pink blooms, terracotta and burnt orange swirls on a dark chocolate ground. It has been lined with interfacing to add some extra body to the bag.

The inner fabric is a modern woven brocade featuring concentric circles of colour in pink, blue, lilac and pale yellow which adds a fun counterpoint to the 'groovy' exterior.

The bag has been finished using a small bright pink silk tassel which is attached to the burgundy coloured zip as a useful pull.

The bag has been constructed using a gusseted base in order to provide extra capacity and allows it to stand upright.

It measures approximately 30 cm wide and 23 cm tall.

I found quite a large piece of this groovy fabric in a junk shop and made a beautiful kitchen blind a few years ago which set off a friend's collection of 1970s West German retro vases perfectly - you know the ones I mean - mostly brown in colour!

I had a few pieces left and so thought I would use them up by transforming the fabric into useful items.

The fabric did side-track me for a while though, as I had to research just what viscose fabric is made from - cellulose or wood pulp- it turns out! Originally produced in 1883 as a cheap alternative to silk, it apparently has a number of great qualities - including breathability and excellent colour retention - as is evident by this fabric's still vibrant colour after over 50 years!
