This circular design is my take on the Three Hares, an ancient design that's been found around the world from China and the Middle East to Devon in southern England. I've included stars, a crescent moon and the hares are running through cottongrass. I first carved the design in to Lino and then rolled over a hand mixed dark blue-grey water based ink. I printed it on to archival white paper using a beautiful old Columbian Press at Hot Bed Press Studios in Salford. This is a limited edition of 25, signed and titled in pencil. The printed design measures approximately 21cm x 21cm; the paper measures approximately 35cm x 35cm and can be cut down to size. It will be posted out flat backed with greyboard in first class post. I'm a great lover of all things folklore and art that tricks the eye; the three hares share three ears between them. This design is thought to have symbolised fertility and the lunar cycle in ancient times, later adopted by Christians to represent the Holy Trinity.
