These are the matching earrings to the Cupid's Dart Pendants. The legend says that the Roman God Cupid, the son of Venus the goddess of love, would carelessly throw magical darts at mortals, and whoever was pierced through the heart would fall hopelessly in love with the next person they saw. A heart pierced with an arrow became the universal symbol of true love.
About Murano Glass Beads
Glass beads have been made on the island of Murano in the Venetian Lagoon since the 13th Century when glassmaking was moved there to prevent fires breaking out in the city. Many of the techniques used by the artists who make the glass are closely guarded secrets, and it helped to be located on an island where few people were allowed to visit. Nowadays the glass making process is still done by hand and Murano glass is recognised as the finest of its kind in the world. No two Murano beads are alike and many are lined in fine silver or 24 Karat gold to enhance their beauty.

Juicy ruby red Murano Hearts lined with 24 Karat gold and pierced by a sterling silver arrow handcrafted at my West Sussex workshop. This is a unique design to Mermaid's Purse jewellery, using genuine Murano hearts from the Murano factory in Venice, and features my handmade 925 sterling silver ear fixings, because to use mass produced fixings for such beautiful handmade Venetian glass beads would be a travesty! In order to create the arrow I used forging and hammering techniques, polishing and imprinting the lines of the "feathers" onto the loop from which the earring hangs. The whole earring, including ear fixings measures 35 mm long and features a 10 mm 24 Karat gold lined heart. The gold lining can just be seen in some of the close up photographs. As such, these earrings are delicate, lightweight and comfortable enough to wear all day. The second to last photograph shows the earrings next to a vintage lipstick case, to give a sense of scale.
These cupid's dart earrings are carefully presented in a gift box fastened with a bow for you to give as a gift, or keep to yourself, as you desire!
