This distinctive miniature, freestanding, fairy/elf door has been upcycled from reclaimed wood and is ideal for placing in your home to create a talking point. A perfect birthday present. Children and adults alike will love it. You can place the door against a skirting board to allow the fairy folk and elves to gain access into your home. A perfect gift for children for a Birthday, a Best Friend or just as a gift.

The door is approximately 10.5 cm tall, approximately 7 cm wide, with an approximate depth of 1 cm.

I am a firm believer in recycling. My items are made from reclaimed wood wherever possible and I often recycle the packaging materials that the items are dispatched in.

A piece of recycled wood was cleaned and sanded to enable me to upcycle it. The design was applied to the wood and cut using a Scroll Saw. Grooves were cut into the door. The edges of the door and the frame were slightly chamfered. The door was then glued into the frame. It was finished with Natural Shellac and several coats of Lacquer, which is heat and water resistant, to protect the piece. The door knocker and handle are made from wire.

The door does not open. It is not a toy and is intended for decorative purposes only.

Being a lover of ancient traditions, customs and folklore, I find the stories of fairies and elves fascinating.

The oldest fairies recorded in England were first chronicled by the historian Gervase of Tilbury in the 13th century.

Elves appear to have sprung from early Norse mythology. By the 1500s, people began adding elf folklore into stories and legends about fairies, and by 1800, fairies and elves were widely considered to be different names for the same magical creatures.
