Full description
This little print is part of a series of paintings and prints exploring old customs and folklore of Britain, rendered in a slightly spooky folk-horror way.
The wassailing tradition of the Mari Lwyd is said to originate in South Wales in the early 1800s and is still performed around Christmas/Yuletide to bring good luck. It is thought to be based on the tradition of the hobby horse (or 'obby oss') and is performed to bring good luck.
This drypoint etching measures approximately 4"x6" and was printed from a plexiglass plate, etched with fine etching tools using sepia oil-based ink on Canaletto ivory paper.
It is number 19 of a limited variable edition of 20, and is sold unmounted as seen.
