Ama is the Japanese name for the incredibly brave, often female, deep-sea divers, who hold their breath for up to a minute diving for abalone, and other shellfish. In the past, they would have dived to find pearl oysters, and for a knitting pattern featuring the ‘string- of-pearls’ stitch, Ama seemed a very fitting name!
A NOTE ABOUT FIT
Designed to fit with approximately 17.5 cm – 33 cm / 7 – 13” of positive ease (extra fabric) around chest/bust.
See schematic and table (in photos above) for finished measurements to help you pick which size to knit. As well as using your chest/bust measurement as a guide to choosing sizes, pay attention to the upper arm measurements also.
Grey/speckled version shown in size M on a 94 cm / 37” chest/bust (21.5 cm / 8.5” of positive ease). Model is 5’9 in height.
