Full description

Hand-carved from a small block of plaster, coloured a mossy stone-grey, then varnished, this piece is a variation on the theme of the traditional Green Man carvings, popular in medieval Britain; a human face formed of or covered in leaves and tendrils. Despite being found carved on the outside and the interior of many old churches, this symbol surely harks back to pagan fertility gods. This carving shows a contented looking Green Man with his eyes closed and a dreamy expression, perhaps basking in the warm rays of the sun. Like all Tom Bloor's carvings for the Emporium, this is a unique, one-off piece. There's a saw-toothed hanger fitted to the back so it can be easily hung on a nail or hook. The weather-proofing varnish means it is suitable for hanging indoors or out. Size : 8 c.m. x 8 c.m. approx.
