Full description
This blessings card based on the Mari Lwyd is hand printed from a plexiglass drypoint etching plate onto a Fabriano card blank using sepia oil based etching ink.
The print is part of a series of paintings and prints exploring old customs and folklore of Britain, rendered in a slightly spooky folk-horror way.
The wassailing tradition of the Mari Lwyd is said to originate in South Wales in the early 1800s and is still performed around Christmas/Yuletide to bring good luck. It is thought to be based on the tradition of the hobby horse (or 'obby oss') and is performed to bring good luck.
The printed area of this etching measures approximately 3"x4", and the card is 5"x7". Price in the UK includes postage.
