I don’t know what it is about bumble bees, but I do like them. Maybe it’s their fussy little bodies that make them look so cute. I met a little bee, who came to visit me at the River Art Market in York one summer afternoon. He stopped by to view my artwork, hung on the railings beside the Museum Gardens, and lazily crawled around amongst my cards. I took several photos of the wee beastie, and fearing that he might be lost, being so close to the pavement alongside the river, I helped him back in to the gardens with the assistance of my sketchbook. It being a beautiful sunny day, I sat back and sketched a series of little furry bees, which would later become this very design. I loved the idea of creating a pattern with the bees, as bees lives revolve around patterns. From the honeycombs of their hives to the waggle dance they do to show a new source of nectar, patterns are everywhere. When it came to naming the print it was totally obvious what I should call it, "Hive Mind".
