Orange, yellow and lime green enhanced with golden highlights on a foundation of cream cotton calico combine to make up this homemade tote bag. The calico is folded into a patchwork block similar to Japanese Origami and machine stitched into position. Both the straps and yokes (tops) are machine stitched too and have top stitching detail. Each window has a square of fabric in matching colours hand stitched into position. The bag is double sided with the rear matching the front and the yokes are lined. Internally, there’s a partially lined patch pocket with the cathedral windows detail and key clasp. A gold coloured button is used to fasten the pocket. The bag is designed to be carried from the shoulder with each strap measuring 30 inches; the width is 12 inches with the length 29 inches inc straps and 15.5 inches without. It’s great for use as a holiday, beach or overnight bag as well as for casual everyday usage such as popping to the shop and makes an ideal gift for family and friends. It’s possible to wash the bag but some shrinkage may occur. Wash on a cool gentle cycle, dry flat and iron whilst damp. Please don’t tumble dry.

I started making the tote bags because I needed a bag for work that was lightweight and would take my lunch as well as my purse, phone, keys etc and I wanted something that was a bit different. I looked everywhere but they were either too expensive or didn’t meet my needs. I decided to make my own and that way I could put in everything I wanted. I added a pocket to house my phone and cards etc and my keys are now attached to the key clasp so don’t get lost at the bottom of the bag like they used to do. Since then, I’ve made lots of bags for gifts for friends and family. One of my friends always takes hers for use on holiday or cruise ship as it is easily packed and lightweight.
