With the stunning Cornish coast on my studio doorstep, I paint to try to convey the sheer beauty of the beaches of Cornwall. I am mesmerised by the immense power of the waves and the colours that appear in the deep waters. I paint so that people can feel the sea spray on their skin and the sand between their toes.

This piece titled “Shoreline: Crantock” was painted as part of my Aerial seascape collection. I really wanted to focus on the strong currents that run along the beach down to the mouth of the Gannel estuary. The whitewash that is created because of these strong currents is beautiful to watch. I focused on adding lots of heavy texture to portray this and also began developing my technique for adding texture to the beach element of the paintings – trying to re-create that look and feel of the sand.
