Item details
Our house is 120 years old and this oak was inside the walls and removed when we had a new front door fitted. You could see the axe marks in the wood, the oak tree it came from may well have been a couple of hundred years old before it was cut down to use in Victorian house building. With that backstory I decided it had to be up-cycled into something new and contemporary - I think it was the hardest piece of timber I've ever worked, a bit like turning stone rather than wood but the result is a delight and it re-affirms all my belief about not wasting wood!
