A very lucky find and one which had been destined for the firewood pile. I get that mad little niggle that says just the axe to this lump and see what's inside and this piece needea jolly good wallop with the froe to actually get it to reveal it's hidden heart and I couldn't believe the story the two pieces told - a marvel of dark gold, honey tones and delicate lacey black tracery. So it was reprieved and I started the transformation process from log to bowl.

Full description
An excellent eating bowl, a great depth for hearty broth & generous puddings. Like all my bowls the uses are whatever you decide, these are lightweight and durable and easy to wash and dry. The spalting is a natural feature in the wood and develops where the log has been laying in a large piece on the ground, open to the elements. This lump had been hanging around for a while and it was whilst clearing up in the workshop I thought I'd just take the axe to it and see if it was still good to use. The grain turned out to be absolutely outstanding and this is one of several, all different, bowls transformed from a nasty looking old log into a magical looking bowl. This has a lovely sloping outer profile and a broad rim, the outside grain is as stunning as the inside!
