I always let the wood speak to me. I look at a log, choose the best direction to split it in had with my axe and then just explore the grain with my eyes. It does at things to me, then I'll split it again, see what it says and this piece said spoons. After the axe work I decide in the shape using the grain to guide me and my knives till it tells me it's ready. And here it is!

Full description
A pretty spoon perfect for eating your porridge, pudding, yoghurt and ice-cream. Carved by hand from Boxmoor cherry. I did a workshop on a very rainy day in Boxmoor and we used some cherry logs that had been felled as part of the management programme at the common. At the end of the day the ranger suggested I took the remaining couple of logs home and that's how I came by this richly coloured timber.
It measures 15.5cm long by 3.5cm wide at the bowl. Just perfect for eating, measuring spice, as a teaspoon and excellent in non-stick pans.
