Encaustic Wax is such a perfect medium for creating vibrant and dramatic art, I love the unpredictability of it and that every piece I make is different. Although I am cursed with the desire to put detail in all my work Encaustic Wax is at its best when loose and flowing. Simple, almost abstract landscapes are, therefore, ideal subject matter for this amazing medium.

Most of my pieces are worked on and completed during weekly workshops that I attend on the Isle of Wight. This painting is 16cm x 21cm (not including mount).

Full description

Encaustic Art is a 2000 year old art form and examples of these paintings can be found in museums all over the world. The process uses heated bees wax to which coloured pigments are added. The liquid/paste can then be applied to numerous surfaces such as canvas, wood, card, fabric and ceramics.

Nowadays the artist applies a base coat of the wax with a heated iron and shapes it onto the surface. Then heated metal tools and brushes etc. are used to manipulate the wax to form an image.

Once framed behind glass it is hard-wearing and can retain its beauty over centuries, only really being damaged by excessive heat. Consequently please do not display your purchase in direct sunlight.

All of my encaustic wax cards & paintings are original and unique (not copies), they are initialled or signed then sealed into either a tri-fold greetings card or a bevelled mount. Each piece is supplied in a cello bag and for additional protection will be despatched in a reinforced envelope.
