Of course he doesn't just have to be a christmas decoration, he can hang around all year to keep a special eye out for you, or you could even transform him into a necklace pendant come January, or whip off the string and he can happily sit watching over you from a shelf or bedside table, in the same way the ninja companions do.
Anything's possible really, a ninja, after all, is for life, not just for christmas.
