My work is made from reclaimed tweed bought from a local charity store, who receive donations from a local processing mill to save the tweed from landfill. I love to use it to make nature pieces, mainly based on animals and this Mallard duck is one of my favourites. It is made to my unique design without a pattern and measures 41cm x 25cm x 15cm and is all wool. The head is fine spun wool with lurex which gives it a glitter, the beak and body are all tweed. It is stuffed with pillow filler. It has some machine stitching to create the former inside but is mainly hand stitched to form the shape and layers. This is not a toy and has not been CE tested.

I had it in my head for a while to make a duck, as I pass by them every day on the river, I love to create animals from the tweed and knew I had just the colour for the mallard's head in my stash which is wool with lurex, so it recreates the iridescence of the feathers. I enjoyed making the rough shape then forming it with layer after layer hand sewn to get just the right shape and tone of the blocks of feathers. Its such a cute duck I will be sad to part with it!
