Just 7 - 8 cm tall, these delightful little trees would love to sit on your table, mantelpiece or window sill - or where ever you can find for them.

These stand-up trees are made in a similar way to our hanging Christmas Trees, which you can find elsewhere in our shop. The differences are that we sandwich a loop of wire between the glass making up the trunk of the tree to provide a support, and fix the completed tree onto a pre-drilled wooden base.

Our friends have said that these look good enough to eat, but we don't advise that - and we suggest that they are not for small children who might make the same mistake.

Our hanging trees were so well received at the first shows we displayed them that we thought there must be other ways of displaying these beauties.

Each tree is constructed from 4 pieces of glass. We first cut a coloured glass triangle for the main tree, and cover that with a piece of clear glass of the same shape. The trunk pieces are then cut, and a loop of nichrome wire is sandwiched between the glass pieces. All the pieces are placed in the kiln, and heated and cooled in a controlled manner, reaching around 800 C, which results in the glass melting together to form a single piece, with the wire loop firmly embedded in the trunk. The cooling process can take several hours to allow the piece to anneal, removing any stress in the glass.
Once cooled, the completed piece is secured to it's wooden base and is ready for you to display.
