A truely unique fused glass bowl, created by melting transparent and opalescent glass through holes in a frame suspended above a kiln shelf, resulting in wonderful organic pattens and textures. It has the feel of an item that is handmade, with slight imperfections, air bubbles and a wobbly edge and is quite different from a mass produced item.
The bowl is a mixture of blues, greens and oranges, all flowing into each other and with one or two tiny pieces of flower patterned glass added to the disk. This was then slumped over a mould to create the fruit bowl.
The bowl is 24cm in diameter and about 6cm deep and weighs approx 1.2 kilos.
I’d seen a photo of an amazing disk of glass on the front of a book about glass, so investigated how it was made. Having discovered that it was formed by melting glass through a pot with holes drilled through it I wanted to see if I could make one. Well they are totally addictive! Some have come out too dark, others such as this one, has a wonderful abstract pattern. I am selling some as disks mounted on a metal frame, but others I wanted to able to use so have slumped them either into or over a mould to create bowls.
