Full description
An incredible large vivid deep blue Genuine New Zealand Paua Shell Abalone Sterling Silver Ring Set in a Fine Silver Bezel on a hand textured ring band. Unusually, this ring is set on the ‘horizontal’ rather than the vertical, and thus makes it different. The Size is a U.K. size ‘N 1/2’ (US Size 6 3/4). It can be resized up the 2 sizes larger, but due to the stone setting cannot be reduced in size.
These shells are found in a number of colours and represent the beauty of life, which is 'change' that we experience every day. It is a common Maori practice to gift paua shells to one another.
Paua shells were widely used by the ancient Maori in the eyes of their sculptures. They especially valued shells with red tints due to its representation as the red eyes of a Maori Warrior and used the blue and green shells as adornments for their statues and as native jewellery.
