At the edge of the known universe is a monoprint made with acrylic paints on paper using the process of gel printing. The title comes from a fancied resemblance of the image to some of the NASA and Hubble images.
The image is about 8" x 6" (200mm x 150mm) and is in an acid free antique white mount sized to fit a 14" x 11" frame (about 355mm x 280mm) although if you wish I can provide a mount sized for any frame to special order. The frame shown is for illustration only and is not included.
Gel printing uses a synthetic gelatin plate to which paints or inks are applied. They can be drawn into or otherwise textured. Paint can be applied with rollers or brushes using stencils or masks. The process lends itself to multiple layers enabling the production of complex prints without the need for a press.
I came to gel printing after some problems with my foot made it hard for me to spend much time at the press. It uses a synthetic gelatin plate to which paints or inks are applied. They can be drawn into or otherwise textured in various ways. Paint can be applied with rollers or brushes using stencils or masks. The process lends itself to multiple layers enabling the production of complex prints without the need for a press. It allows me to work sitting at a table without any complex equipment, but is still capable of producing sophisticated imagery. I now use the process in its own right and not as a substitute for other media.
