Kanzashi is a lovely Japanese art form, rather like origami, but done with fabric, generally silk. I have adapted it somewhat to make flowers from other fabrics, in this case crystal organza, which I attach to stretchy headbands. Instead of stitching the flower to the band, this time I have pinned it, so the Kanzashi can be used on other items, such as a handbag, hat or coat. The headband is bright turquoise, the flower is white, and there is a flat turquoise glass bead in the centre. The headband is 3" wide, 16" un-stretched and up to 22" stretched.
I discovered Kanzashi on the internet some years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed using my cotton scraps left from making pinnies to create flowers. Wondering what to do with the results I settled on headbands, hairbands and hair slides. I have sold many at Craft Fairs. I thought I'd see what happens on Folksy!
