Kanzashi is a lovely Japanese art form, somewhat like origami, but done with fabric, generally silk. I have adapted it somewhat to make flowers from other fabrics, in this case cotton, which I attach to stretchy headbands. The flower on this headband is attached with a pin, so that it can be used alternatively on a bag, hat or coat. The headband is turquoise and the flower is sky blue, with a kingfisher blue glass bead in the centre. It is 3" wide, 16" un-stretched and up to 22" stretched. It is lined with cotton/polyester towelling.
I discovered Kanzashi on the internet some years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed using my cotton scraps left from making pinnies to create flowers. Wondering what to do with the results I settled on headbands, hairbands and hair slides. I have sold many at Craft Fairs. I thought I'd see what happens on Folksy!
