The fleece in this scarf came from sheep that spend their lives in Portnahaven on the Isle of Islay. Wool is one of nature’s gifts and sadly one that today is undervalued and underappreciated. The fleece has been hand washed, with nothing more than washing up liquid, dyed with edible food dyes and hand carded on a beautiful wooden carding machine, that sits on my kitchen table. The scarf is about 80% islay wool, 10% silk and 10% tweed offcuts . By buying this scarf you are doing your bit to support the Scottish wool industry and keeping alive traditional skills.
The Scarf consists of a layer of fleece and one layer of silk hankies. Silk hankies are individual silk cocoons that have been stretched over a wooden frame. The fleece is predominantly from Scottish Black Face sheep and has been carded with some Merino to give it a soft and luxurious feel. The Scarf looks very delicate, however the silk provides strength as well as, of course, a beautiful softness. Texture has been added to the scarf with the addition of locally produced Islay tweed that has been shredded and mixed with silk.
The loop on the end is weighted with a felted shell.
Ideal for cooler summer evenings, as a wrap around your shoulders or in the cooler winter months wrapped around your neck as a scarf.
This is definitely hand wash only! Wash gently in cool water and reshape gently, drying on a flat surface.
