These boxes started out as a collection of offcuts (from musical instrument and furniture making) and reclaimed timber too small to make anything substantial, but too pretty to sit unused in a pile (or go on the fire...). As a result they are largely one-offs, in slightly random sizes, depending on what is available at the time of making...

Full description
Small desk or jewellery box made of reclaimed Honduras or Brazilian mahogany, with corner reinforcements of Indian rosewood, and the mahogany base and lid darkened with iron stain. This iron/vinegar solution is usually used to 'ebonise' oak, but also works well on other woods with a high tannin content, such as walnut and mahogany.
Dimensions (in mm) - externally 120 long x 64 wide x 68 high (including lid & handle); internally 90 x 32 x 35.
Finished with shellac and wax - no grain filler, so there is still some texture to the mahogany.
The base and sides are lined internally with black velvet.
If you like the design but would prefer it in a different size, or made in different woods, just get in touch and I'll let you know what other woods I have available. Custom orders will normally take 2-3 weeks to make.
