My mother and grandmother both had stashes of buttons, most of which were purchased before I was born (and I remember the ‘Swinging 60’s’!).
I used to love to play with the buttons, plunging my tiny hands into the tins and jars of multi-coloured 'gems'. I spent hours sorting them into coloured piles, size relation piles, design piles and any other pile I could think of.
Decades later, after I had inherited the tins and jars of historical lovelies, I came up with the 'brilliant' idea of sharing the love with whomever would like to adorn their creations with something a bit different, a bit 'special'.

Postal charges for outside UK & Europe: If you are based outside the UK or Europe please contact me for an up-to-date postage quotation. If you are happy with the rate, please message me before purchase. I will create a listing just for you - using the correct rate and will let you know when the listing is ready for your purchase commitment. Prospective customers from outside UK & Europe ** There is an International Economy rate of postage provided by Royal Mail UK, if you don't mind the possibility of the package taking longer to get to you (it travels by surface mail, not airmail). This option applies to Outside Europe and the Rest of the World only. The main downside, as stated, is the time. Royal Mail quotes up to 6-8 weeks for Rest of the World (outside Europe). If you are interested in this option, please message me before purchase. I will create a listing just for you - using the Economy rate and will let you know the listing is ready for your purchase commitment. Thank you ** ***All postage rates quoted are for straight posting. If you require insurance to be added to your postage, please message me before purchase. I will create a listing just for you - with the option of insurance added and let you know the listing is ready for your purchase commitment. Thank you***
Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.
My mother, at the tender age of 16 or 17 (during WWII) was a bridesmaid to one of her cousins. I still have the photo of the happy day.
These buttons were part of the decoration of her bridesmaid’s dress. We used to have some of the fabric when I was much younger – a dark dusky pink. It’s not what I would have chosen but, in those days, you used what you had!
The buttons are pure 1940’s. They look like the kind of hats women wore in those days (I miss hats!). They look like mini flying saucers (another memory of the 40’s!) with a hub in the center and a raised rim around the outside.
Taking into consideration the age of these buttons – they are in great condition. They don’t have a molded shank at the back of the button, they have a fabric tag which you sew onto your garment. This will keep these little lovelies flat and stable.
There are 5x buttons, each with a diameter of 16mm.
I have THOUSANDS of buttons, all sorted and attached to cards, and I will be listing them as often as I can. If you don't find the ones you like this week, please try again next week, or the week after. Of course, if you don't have the time for that, but you know what you are looking for, or even just have an inkling of an idea, contact me with your request and I will search through all the collection for you.
