gorlech are Claire and Paul, woodcrafters based in rural West Wales.
This item was hand-crafted by us in our home workshop from wood we sourced ourselves whilst managing a local woodland. We are passionate about the importance of woodlands and the role that wood can play in shaping a more sustainable future.
Wood is a unique, in that – if harvested correctly - it is a completely sustainable, carbon-neutral and zero-waste material. It is also warm, tactile and inherently beautiful. Our ancestors knew this, and we hope to follow in their tradition by providing high-quality, hand-crafted alternatives to the mass-produced items sold in big stores across the globe.
By purchasing this item you will be joining us on our journey to put wood back in our homes and our hearts, as well as doing justice to that all-important ring.

If you have a little ornament that you would like to make a real feature of, then look no further than one of our ancient Oak heartwood display plinths. It is extremely special wood, perfect for crystals, succulents or candles.

This plinth is made from oak wood. The branch that this plinth is made from was removed from a several hundred year old Oak tree a few miles from our home in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. Because the tree was many centuries old, the sap wood had long since gone and the limb contained only this naturally-weathered ‘heart wood’ (which provides the tree with its structural strength) and it is from this ancient hard oak ‘heart wood’ that this design is made. It is an absolute pleasure to work with oak heartwood, as once cleaned up, it emits a centuries-old warm glow that is unmistakable. Many hours of work go in cleaning the wood. As you can imagine, it looks very different when first removed from the tree, but we believe it is well worth the effort...
The piece has been treated with several coats of our homemade beeswax and linseed oil wax..
