Notice about the COVID-19 situation: the situation in the UK has become more strict with lockdown measures in place. Because of this my shop will still remain open, however I will only be dispatching items once a week, on a THURSDAY MORNING (UK time). Orders placed after 10am (BST) on a Thursday will be posted the following Thursday. Any print orders are dealt with by the printers directly, their processing times are supposedly unaffected at the moment. Things are constantly changing here, so if you're in any doubt about whether you can order, feel free to get in touch. Thank you for your patience.
A beautiful green glass 'drop' vase that has been made in a kiln. It has been handmade using a combination of transparent sheet glass and opaque powdered glass in order to give the different colour tones and depths. It would look beautiful as a decorative ornament, table centre piece or to use as a vase with delicate flowers.
Drop vases are called so because of how they are made; the glass blank (which is layered glass that has first been fired to full fuse to combined the layers) is placed over a ring that is suspended on posts in the kiln and the glass melts down, or drops, through the hole in the ring resulting in a small vase. This process must be meticulously watched so that you can visually see whether the glass has dropped far enough and to make sure it doesn't drop too much (resulting in a glass puddle on the floor of the kiln). It is then allowed to cool slowly in the kiln before being taken out.
The vases then need to be cold-worked in order to remove the excess glass rim that is present in this process. The rim is removed and then the edge is gradually grind down to get a smooth edge.
These vases measure around 10cm tall and are 7cm wide at the top, 4cm at the bottom.
Due to the fragile nature of them I will be posting them Royal Mail 1st Class Signed for for domestic orders and Royal Mail Tracked and Signed for international orders.
-Commission pieces are always welcomed, just send me a message to discuss possibilities-
