Breakfast like a guest at Downton Abbey.
This Cherry breakfast tray is entirely made by hand tools. Each piece is carefully cut and shaped by hand. The dovetails, mortice and tenons are all, again, made using hand tools. This means that each piece is lovingly prepared.
Cherry wood gives beautiful patterns known as figure and the surfaces glow warmly under the french polish.
If you really want to treat your partner to a romantic breakfast in bed these heirloom trays will add that touch of class. They also make great wedding presents or temporary, portable display stands.
This is my "Robert" model which has simple tapered legs. Please look at my shop for the Cora which has hand carved spade feet and is slightly daintier.
Dimensions
The tray is 22” wide and 14” deep standing at 11” or folded at 4” high in total. Its legs allow for 8 1/2 “ height underneath and 18” width.
The trays useable surface is 20” wide by 11” deep. It will hold a dinner plate, bowl and cup and saucer.
Materials:
My trays are made entirely of hardwood. Both woods get darker with age. Cherry especially darkens in sunlight.
Prior to assembly they are given a coat of WALNUT or Linseed oil. This brings out the beauty and depth of the grain.
The upper surfaces and leg assemblies are then French polished.
French polishing uses shellac which is a natural product produced by the lac beetle. If you would like a different finish please contact me.
