This dark brown incense cone holder measures about 3.5cm across and is inlaid with an old British half penny coin as the burning plate. It was hand made in Central Scotland, a stone's throw from the famous Kelpies.

First a walnut board was marked out and the inlay drilled and sanded to accept the coin. Next I liberated the ash catcher from the board with a hand saw and sanded it to a very fine finish. Walnut is a nice dense wood, so it feels really quite smooth to the touch. Finally, I applied a few coats of linseed oil to protect the wood and accentuate the grain patterns.

The coin measures c. 2.5cm in diameter.

After burning a cone the coin can be cleaned using little solvent like turps, white spirit or acetone on a soft cloth. These are flammable, so make sure all trace of solvent is gone before reigniting another cone.

After I developed a style of incense stick holder that suited us what did my darling other half pick up in our usual incense stick shop? Yep, cones. Dragon's Blood I believe. Was it Game of Thrones season back in Feb 2017?

Our first household cone burner was duely made from beech wood with a half pence as the burning plate. I thought it looked pretty cool and it worked well, so I decided to roll them out as a product. I've not fully developed this collection yet because I do intend to add some different wood species in the future.
