Dramatic swirls of shades of blue representing the sea and sky surround the iconic island of Ailsa Craig in this fused glass sun-catcher/wall hanger.
Situated off the coast of South Ayrshire, Ailsa Craig is the granite heart of an extinct volcano. The island is the main source of the stone used in the manufacture of curling stones and is also a bird sanctuary, home to large numbers of nesting gannets.
Rectangles of coloured glass for the sea and sky are cut by hand and laid in a kiln. Powdered glass is used to form the shape of the island and a piece of clear glass is overlaid as a cover. The assembly is then fired in the kiln to over 800 degrees celsius, fusing the glass pieces into one, solid piece.
The sun-catcher is 150mm x 65mm with a hanging ribbon.
The piece will be sent by Royal Mail 1st Class.
NB: Each sun-catcher is unique and whilst the pictures give you an indication of the variety available, please note that the sun-catcher you receive may not be one of those shown in this listing.
