Back in medieval times travellers would sometimes carry a small ladle with them with which to eat the soups and stews that they would frequently encounter on their journey. It was also known as a 'fist spoon' as it fits neatly into the hand, making it extremely portable. I make many of these and they are very popular as kitchen scoops. Coffee, pulses, flour, a nice, adaptable piece of handmade kitchen folk art.
