This painting was made from sketches I drew in front of nautilus tank at The Deep (Hull's spectacular aquarium), I find these animals extraordinarily odd, with their graceful curves contrasting with their rather jerky backward movement. But it's their eyes that interest me most - intelligent, yet expressionless - and it's that look that I have tried to capture in this painting.
