A superstar was born on the opening day of the 1996/97 season at Selhurst Park against Wimbledon FC. Manchester United were the visitors and led 2-0 thanks to goals from Cantona and Irwin, but it was a young man named David Beckham that stole the headlines with United's third goal.
Taking the ball inside his own half Beckham looked up and launched a stunning shot over the Wimbledon goalkeeper Neil Sullivan. It introduced Mr. Beckham to the world and is one of the Premier Leagues greatest goals.
The title of the book “Oh! That is absolutely phenomenal!!” is taken from the BBC Match of the Day commentary by John Motson.
