My love of hares inspired me to make this pendant.
Hares are steeped in myth and folklore in Britain. They are also rather elusive - I live in the Lake District yet have only seen them a handful of times. For most of the year hares are nocturnal. However, in the spring they often come out in the daytime to chase and box each other. They are very much a creature that lives in the shadows, and that has always fascinated me.

I made this hare pendant from sterling silver sheet using traditional silversmith techniques.
I textured two pieces of silver sheet for the star and the hill in my rolling mill. I then cut out the hare, the star, the hill, and the background. After filing and sanding, I stamped the background with a star stamp. Next, I soldered all the pieces (and a bezel) to the background. I then pickled (a process for removing oxidised surfaces and flux from metal after soldering) and polished the pendant. When I had finished polishing, I set the garnet cabochon.
This pendant is hung from a sparkly 16" sterling silver oval diamond cut belcher chain and is fastened with a handmade sterling silver s-hook.
Once all that was done, the pendant was sent to London to be assayed and fully hallmarked at The Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office.
The pendant is just over 2 cm wide and 4 cm tall.
The star gazing hare will come packaged in a high-quality black box with my logo embossed in silver.
