Bespoke weathervane featuring a Riley Kestrel car of 1938. Created in 316 'Marine' grade stainless steel for a long corrosion resistant life.

Built to my own unique design and not available anywhere else, the Riley design was completed by hand and includes details that help to capture the essence of this historic machine. The finished design was laser cut from 3 mm thick stainless steel sheet and completed by me in my own workshop.

The direction arrow features art deco inspired head and tail and the upper assembly pivots on a point contact bearing giving a smooth response in only a light breeze.

The cardinal markers feature art deco style lettering, the diameter across the cardinal arms is approx. 500 mm. The arrow measures approx. 700 mm from tip to tail and the silhouette has a wheelbase of approx. 300 mm.

The centre post is machined from solid 1/2" diameter stainless steel and extends approximately 630 mm below the cardinal arms.

The whole assembly weighs approx. 5 kg to 5.5 kg

Can be mounted direct into a hole drilled in a wooden post, pergola or ridge-board. Alternatively we can supply a simple bracket that allows the weathervane to be mounted to a vertical surface such as a gable end (see separate listing).

A life long passion for vintage cars and engineering. This design is based on one of my own cars, a Riley Kestrel from 1938. The Kestrel model was introduced in 1933, one of the very first 'aeroline' designs and with much art deco influence. The 2.5 litre 'Blue Streak' models of 1937 almost saved the Riley family company but came slightly to late to prevent the receivers and sale to the Nuffield group. Riley had been one of the most successful motor companies of the 20s and 30s, their innovative engine designs propelling their cars to many competition successes, they were also know for excellent handling, often beating much larger and more powerful machines. Riley engines were the basis for the development of the ERA racing cars. The 2.5 litre 'Blue Streak' cars had impressive acceleration and were capable of almost 100 mph in standard road going form, in 1938 there wasn't much around that could keep up. Had they come 6 months sooner they would probably have saved the company.
