Compared with making furniture and other large things, I have found that working with wood at this scale opens the eyes to a different world: the micro-beauty of wood.

I cut this memory stick across, rather than along, a log of yew and it shows the grain (and knot) beautifully.

As with many of my flash drives or memory keys, I have crafted this one somewhat bigger than normal so as not to waste any of Mother Nature's magical artwork. I have also retained the tree's natural edge.

I do favour a finish that allows the ‘woodiness’ of the material to show through rather than a glossy varnish and most of what I have on sale feature an oil and hard wax finish.

Superstitious?

…then with a wooden memory stick, you can always ‘Touch Wood’!

Not strictly jewellery I know, but this jump drive deserves to be shown off. It has 1 Gigabyte of memory. I'm told 1 GB will accept anything between 250 and 1000 photographs depending on quality settings. Or 250 MP3s at 128 kB/s.

The memory stick measures about 3 1/4" x 1 3/8" x 1/2" and is fitted with a leather thong. Be aware that the chunky nature of some of my memory sticks may not fit directly into some machines. I'll include a short USB extension lead with this one
