Hares are steeped in myth and folklore in Britain. They are also rather elusive - I live in the Lake District yet have only seen them a handful of times. For most of the year hares are nocturnal. However, in the spring they often come out in the daytime to chase and box each other. They are very much a creature that lives in the shadows, and that always fascinated me.
I called this hare pendant Theia because hares are often associated with the moon and in Greek mythology Theia is the mother of the Moon goddess Selene. Theia is also the name of a hypothetical planet which is thought to have collided with Earth, resulting in the creation of the Moon.

This pendant is made from sterling silver using traditional silversmith techniques. Firstly, I textured a sheet of silver using a rolling mill, I then cut out a disc to represent the full moon. Next, I cut out the hare and carefully filed and sanded the edges. I then soldered the hare onto the disc, and also soldered a little bail onto the back.
The pendant is hung from a 18" sterling silver chain (which I can shorten if you would like) and is fastened with a handmade s-clasp.
Once all that was done, the pendant was sent to London to be assayed and fully hallmarked at Goldsmith's.
Theia the Hare is approximately 2 cm in diameter.
