A pine box with Hardwood keys. To me the interesting bit was making a jig to allow me to cut the slots for the keys on the router table:- a mitre joint is not inherently strong, so the hardwood keys look good and provide reinforcement. Also note that the wood grain runs around the corners, which adds to the quality. This has been finished with a melamine lacquer that chestnut products say is safe on toys and that had a light coat of bees wax over the top to add a nice lustre. The black material inside has been stuck to a piece of card and is a synthetic vellum type material with a carpet feel. The piece underneath has been stuck to the plywood bottom.

Full description
A pine box. 185mm x140mm x 125mm tall. 583 grams weight. I programmed the 3D router at the school I worked at a few years ago and set up a demo for the kids. Afterwards, I saved the piece of pine from the bin, took it home and painted it red, added a box underneath and was really experimenting with a technique that uses a router table to add keys to reinforce mitre joints. As usual the mantra "I started so I'll finish", lead to a completed box....My family and I have boxes all over the place so I'm offering this one to a new owner that will love it and cherish it.
