I have a special connection to hares and started this piece last summer. He was long in the making and I let the decisions come slowly. I think he was worth the wait - hope you agree. x

Full description
Welcome to the listing of this large hare sculpture. He is a one of a kind handmade piece of textile art and I call this piece "What was that?"
He is sculpted out of unbleached cotton and his face is hand stitched around glass eyes. I don't use any patterns or sketches when I work but visualise the shape I want and the cut the unmarked fabric - more exciting that way and the result has more life as well as being a true one of a kind. I make a lot of heads and feel familiar with the shapes but to visualise the position of a whole body and then break it down to body parts and cut without making a pattern - fun! I love movement in a piece and this guy has that and then some. He has large wired ears and his feet are over dimensioned simply because I love big feet!
I can tell you it was seriously scary to paint this gent. Imagine spending ages sculpting a canvas and then spoiling the whole thing when you start applying the paint. I'm guessing it's much the same when ceramic artists apply the glaze. It makes or breaks a piece. I think he turned out perfect though - phew!
He is sitting on a piece of really rough piece of heavy driftwood that seem to have been scorched at some point (would love to know the history there) and one of his big feet are lose so it can either be placed on the wood or hang off the side.
He measures 45cm from top of ear to bottom of wood (slightly more if you let his foot dangle).
If you have any questions just ask. Thanks for looking! x
