A unique piece of textile art that combines the textures of tweed and silk velvet and is embellished with free machine and hand embroidery.
Perfect art gift for any occasion.
Tweed fabrics are patchworked together onto a natural coloured wool fabric background using free machine embroidery and slow stitch is added using hand dyed thread and glitter thread that is variegated in shades of browns and golds.
An early morning sunflower has been appliquéd onto the tweed fabrics. This is further embellished with appliquéd hand dyed silk velvet petals, the leaf is free machine embroidered and hand embroidery is used for the stem and flower centre. Small flowers are hand embroidered and small yellow buttons are used for flower centres. French knots are sewn with a hand dyed variegated thread and a silver coloured 'dragonfly' charm complete the ensemble.
This original design is framed in a deep natural wood box frame. The frame measures 19cm x 19cm, 2cm depth and the textile work is 15 x 15 cm
I love combining different textures and this collection of work was inspired after I was given a bag of tweed off cuts and I combined these with my hand dyed threads and fabrics. I like to visit France where I simply adore the fields of sunflowers, these are the inspiration for this work.
