Welsh love spoon classic theme.This spoon has been carved using a knife only. The givers of spoons were by in large rural land workers and miners who would not have access to fine tools. Tight detail is very difficult with one size of blade. So when i see the quality of some of the hand carved spoons of the 18th Century I take my hat off to them.

Love spoons were traditionally given at a marriage or betrothal. The gift was seen to poor folks of the 17th and 18th centuries as significant an engagement ring. Girls on receipt of a spoon would wear their hair with a garland of flowers in May to announce they were spoken for. I am sure the significance of the Month of May and flowers has its roots in a much older tradition.
