Item details

A super chunky pure merino wool cushion in faded blue with embroidered French knots. The cushion front was crocheted in Rowan Cork, a chunky-weight merino wool, in a basket weave design. French knots were embroidered onto the weave in a chequered pattern using a multi-coloured wool. The finished front was blanket stitched and crocheted together with a hand-made deep red cushion back that is buttoned closed. The backing is made from a mixed cotton/fibre thick corduroy upholstery fabric.

I found this wool in a stash of projects I hadn't started! It's lovely and thick and warm and not at all wooly like an Aran. This crochet stitch really works well with a thick wool and it creates such a tactile texture. I wanted to inject something more original into the crochet, and have always loved french knots. Using a multi-coloured wool to make the knots just brought the whole design together.
