A large serving and cooking spoon made for dealing with stews, cassoulets and the like.
Handcarved from seasoned Rowan wood using traditional techniques with gouge, axe and knife.
The bowl will hold about a mugfull of food and the total spoon length is 12 inches.
Finished with hot culinary grade linseed oil.
In use- to care for the spoon-wash it after use by hand and let it dry naturally. Every once in a while when it's dry, give it a rub with walnut (as long as you're not nut allergic) grape seed or cooking grade linseed oil. A bit exotic maybe so at a pinch use olive or cooking oil.
Dishwashing machines are the enemy of all wooden utensils - never put your spoon in one!!
I made this spoon to a pattern I saw in a cafe in a village in Haute Provence many years ago.
Rowan wood (literally Mountain Ash in this case) seemed to be a good choice with its tight grain and good figure.
