Item details

This platter is turned from well seasoned slighty quilted maple. Carved then lightly scorched using a micro blow lamp then coloured using spirit stains blending from blue to yellow. The coloured rim is finished with gloss lacquer and the wood part is finished with matt osmo oil to create a shiny matt combination which i think works well. Approximately 290mm in diameter x 35mm

Maple is a lovely wood to turn and carve but can sometimes be a bit bland. This was why I decided to add the carving, light scorching to the edges to create a worn effect then the blue and yellow colour which blend to create the green. The bowl part then exposes enough of the natural beauty of the wood.
