I inherited a red beret from my grandmother when she died, some years ago. I wore it for years and, while rifling through my granny's old crochet patterns one day, found the pattern. It's simple, practical and pretty (and very, very old).
It is the only hat I ever wear, and the only beret pattern I've ever used (I can't find anything that suits me quite as well), so I crochet them regularly, for new accessory sets for myself, and to replace ones I've lost...
I found this yarn some years ago, and discovered, totally by accident, that it makes a warm and water resistant material, perfect for a hat!

Full description
This sumptuous, lilac beret is made from chunky merino wool with a hint of camel!
Merino wool is warm, breathable and elastic, keeping your head toasty. Camel seems to lend this beret the property of waterproofing - it literally repels water! I have owned a Fez beret for years for exactly this reason.
Yarn: Fez - Debbie Bliss
85% merino wool, 15% camel
