Here at A Home For A Witch we celebrate the solstices and my favourite is the Winter Solstice. This perfect time of year always starts for us at The Weald and Downland Museum in West Sussex where we take part in there Pagan Tree dressing festival, we make crowns from Ivy and decorate the Aspen trees with hand made lanterns before giving thanks and taking part in a fertility dance for the coming year. In our little seaside home we gather Ivy from our garden on the day of the winter solstice which we use to decorate our home, and also twist some into crowns for use on Christmas day rather then the traditional paper crowns. From this I thought how wonderful to create a piece of knitted work that honours this time and can be worn at solstice ceremonies for many years to come and can be interwoven with your own collecting of Ivy from your gardens. I also thought it was a beautiful piece for a winter Solstice hand fasting ceremony and is a piece that can be pass from female to female.
