I love the Japanese connection between Ikebana & Raku.

Size 2 Ikebana Dish in splendid Raku. White crackle glaze with a 2" fixed Pin Holder/Kenzan.34cm long. Raku is an old Japanese technique. Using special clay and glaze, I fire up to 1000 degs C. I then remove the dish from the kiln. Thermal shock causes the glaze to crackle. I then bury it in sawdust which catches fire, the resulting smoke has carbon in it and gets into the crackles to delineate the pattern. When cold the dish is washed to remove the burnt sawdust . Each dish is totally unique.
