Item details

Large brooch/pin to secure a coat, shawl or cardigan. Made with Britannia and sterling silver and enamelled with a swirl pattern in three colours (red, black and turquoise). This design is called a penanular brooch with a silver circlet that holds the large pin in place. The long pin has a silver protector for safety. This pin is a dramatic statement piece.

I read about penanular cloak pins being used in medieval times and how to make them in a book by Sarah Macrae. I Iove working with silver and find enamelling a challenge so I designed the enamelled top for this pin to use three colours that I feel look good together.
